I am 5 Years Old
In May 2013 Li participated in “Bald Girls: A Door”, a feminism-oriented exhibition. Her performance “I’m Five years Old” is based on an actual event in which a five-year-old girl was raped by her father. The audience saw a razor blade on Li’s neck. She took it off, put it in her mouth, and then started to tell the story of a girl’s childhood in which she was sexually assaulted by her father. With the blade in mouth, she could not make clear sounds. Every word and every sentence produced meant a cut in her mouth. The story was told in pain. It is extremely hard for a girl to talk about such a painful experienceï¼it is actually impossible to speak. Speaking will bring her more suffering.
