Li Xinmo's Calligraphy Creation

2000-2016

The calligraphy works of Li Xinmo, selected from the Li Xinmo Calligraphy Collection, span from 2008 to 2020 and encompass a rich variety of styles, including regular script (楷书), running script (行书), cursive script (草书), and small seal script (小楷). Her calligraphy is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Wei-Jin period but is also imbued with modern visual elements, resulting in a distinctive and innovative calligraphic style.

Li Xinmo’s work demonstrates a remarkable range of styles and approaches. Her calligraphy traces a journey from classical techniques to contemporary exploration, reflecting both traditional roots and modern sensibilities. The integration of ancient Wei-Jin aesthetics with contemporary visual elements not only honors the historical essence of Chinese calligraphy but also pushes its boundaries into new artistic realms.

In her pieces, one can observe a seamless blend of historical influences with a modern twist. Her running script exhibits fluidity and dynamism, while her cursive script showcases bold, spontaneous expression. The regular script, precise and controlled, contrasts with the expressive freedom of the cursive style, revealing her versatility and deep understanding of calligraphic forms.

Li Xinmo's calligraphy embodies a dialogue between past and present, exploring the evolution from traditional writing techniques to contemporary conceptual art. Her works are not just a testament to her technical skill but also reflect a broader conceptual journey, illustrating her ongoing exploration of the intersections between classical calligraphic heritage and modern artistic expression.
