Isolation

Installation & Performance (bones, Das Kapital, soil). 2015. Photo by Roland von der Emden.

In 2015, Li Xinmo presented the performance "Isolation" at her solo exhibition at KAISER & CREAM Gallery in Germany. The gallery floor was covered with soil. Animal bones were arranged on the wall, with a copy of Das Kapital positioned on top, and Marx’s portrait printed on the cover of the book. In front of this wall was a hospital bed filled with water. The artist lied in the bed, and animal blood was sprinkled on her body through infusion tubes. This work illustrates the plundering of natural life in the context of economic globalization, and the state of isolation and suspension experienced by individuals. Everyone has become both a potential killer and a potential victim. The sick cannot be healed.
