During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Li Xinmo created a series of paintings exploring the relationship between humans and nature, and humans and animals. In these works, Li shifted the perspective of viewing animals, treating birds as beings capable of dialogue and communication with humans.
Li Xinmo sought to break the boundary between humans and the animal kingdom, creating empathy and resonance between birds and humans. Like painting a human portrait, she painted the portrait of a bird, depicting the emotions between humans and birds as she would with human emotions. The pandemic period was a time for humans to reflect on how to relate to nature and the biological world.
